MJLogo Company History

MJ Engineering was formed in 1975 ??? 1980 ??? 21st Birthday in 2001 ??? by two very experienced model engineers, Malcolm Frost and John Steer. The aim was to build model traction engines for sale to customers on a commission basis. Both Malcolm and John had been firm friends since beginning their toolmaking apprenticeships together in 1957.

It was soon realised that the vast amount of research work required for each model could be put to better use. So it was decided to market the designs; and to produce drawings and castings so that other model engineers could make the models for themselves.

Gradually the business grew from a part-time hobby to full-time employment as requests were received to carry out some of the more difficult machining operations such as gear cutting, cylinders etc.

In 2001 MJ Engineering celebrated it's 21st birthday with the launch of drawings and castings for the 2" scale Fowler Showman's Road Locomotive which became the showcase of the range.

In 2005 John and Malcolm decided that it was time to take a back seat and sold the company to Alan and Helen Barsby who were one of their customers.

In March 2006 we moved to our new home in Yateley, just 2 miles from where we live. We found a nice premises that was big enough to expand into as we grow.

We will strive to maintain the high standards that our predecessors have set out whilst introducing new models to the range and maintaining and supporting the existing builders.
